Purple Walls and a Pink Forest

Painting assignment: create an interior layout and paint with whatever medium you desire. I decided to get back into acrylic for this one(as opposed to guache)..thought it would work best to get the matt, graphic design I was going for. Colour and tonal roughs are below.

First Painting assignment: An exterior. If I'd redo it, I'd up the contrast a little.

Comments/Critiques welcome as always :)

long time no post..

Hello!
These are character designs from our 2nd assignment..the goal: to make them contrast one another...(can you spot all the contrasting features?)
These two will soon appear in an animation project involving walk and run cycles.
..comments, critiques???

Hey Kids!

For part of this summer I was kept very busy as a day camp counselor, running the camp's art program. Though it was tiring, (as almost all work with children is), I loved teaching them new things, and it was always great seeing their results. One of my favorite things when I used to go to camp was the art classes, so when some kids said the same things about camp this year, well that was very nice to hear :)

Here are some of the kids I taught, caricatured. They're just head shots, and all smiling - whether it be in an innocent or mischievous way was determined by the time I got to spend with them in art class.

Simply Serene

One thing I like most about summer is the time spent at the cottage. Just got back from a long weekend at a friend's cottage and here's a quick watercolour/ink sketch I did of my surroundings.

Hooters

..and by hooters I mean owls..what else!

I wanted to test out some brushes on Photoshop, because I havnt been one to use many when working on one piece, so these were more experimental for me as opposed to a final piece. Don't remember how I came to choose owls as the subject matter, but once I started I really liked how unique (and in some cases complex) their feathers are. I drew a few, but these are my two favorties..and as for the background, yes it's a lame flower brush but I liked the effect it gave, contrasting the realistic owls with the retro design.

At the Zoo

Took a day to draw at the zoo. Times flies when you're drawing animals... I really enjoyed it, which is a good things because I need a lot more practice and therefore hope to be going back soon. Also, got a membership, so if anyone is up for more zoo drawing trips in the near future, let me know! These are just a few of my better ones..

Just a Peck on the Cheek

Our last animation project of the year: Animate a flour sack interacting with something else.

My "something else" was a female flour sack. This animation seemed to take longer to complete than the previous ones, although I'm fairly pleased with the results. I learned REALLY how important it is to plan ahead and storyboard so you know what you're doing, don't waste time, and paper (don't ask me how many sheets I had to throw away until reaching my final result...)

..so plan ahead, lesson learned!

..from painting class

A couple of projects done this semester. A landscape layout showing both night and day (done in guache), and the other was an exercise in rendering a reflective surface (done with chalk pastels).

"Disco Dane"

He's fun, he's carefree, (probably a bit of an egotistical snob) and he'll bust out those dance moves all night long. Last character design project of the year.. i tried to avoid drawing "another cute character"..eventually i hope to give him some colour.

"..because i'm a lady, that's why"

So here's Marie, the spolied little kitten from Disney's The Aristocats. Our project was to create a head rotation, expression change, and lipsync of a character of our choice. I only had time to clean up the head rotation, although i find sometimes the rough animation brings the character more to life.. with more time i'd cleanup some inbetweens and tighten up the lipsync, but for now, here are the results. (make sure your speakers are on to hear the "meow")

The Pinkest Of Panthers

Done the Pink Panther assignment using my Pink Panther walk cycle animation, Photoshop, and Digital Pro.
He may have turned out a bit too pink than normal..but perhaps that is why the pantherettes adore him so.

Cafe Coffee Couple

Cafe Sketch..this couple sat there for a really long time, not saying a word to each other, sipping their coffee in silence.

barista girl

A character deisgn project from Semester 1, but i quite like how it turned out. Loosely based on a good friend of mine who works as a barista.. thanks for the inspiration! This was an excercise to practice facial expressions.

3 Meals a Day

I was looking through some pictures hoping to find some old piece of work that had been forgotten but may potentially be good for this blog and I found this! A miniature food set that i made last year using Sculpey clay. Each plate of food is about the size of a quarter. Miniatures are awesome and I would love to just sit for hours creating them..sadly, in Animation, you rarely have extra time that isn't spent eating, sleeping, or going to extra life.

Coral in guache

Took me forever to actually get something posted up here, and although there really are no excuses..better late than never no? This is a coral painting i did for painting layout class during first semester. I like how the colours turned out, perhaps it's a bit crowded but I guess I couldn't resist adding all the beautiful types of coral.
